  • Title: Precision Medicine Approach To Preventing Post Operative Delirium

Abstract

Delirium, a prevalent and severe disorder, is the most common postoperative complication among older adults. It’s incidence varies widely, reported in 10% to 50% of surgical patients, with higher rates observed in older adults and those with preexisting cognitive impairments. In addition, studies have shown a significant association between delirium and long term cognitive decline. Delirium has numerous predisposing etiologies, and a standardized management approach may not be the most effective solution. Instead, it is crucial to explore the evolving landscape of personalized and targeted perioperative management to prevent delirium. This approach has the potential to enhance patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, simplify patient management, and prevent long-term cognitive impairments.
